Workforce Development (#WorkReady Internship)

With unemployment in Oregon at an all-time low, finding skilled workers remains a major concern for businesses of all sizes. Over the years, by participating in the America’s Best Communities competition and now with the Tualatin STEAM Team, the Chamber has played a key role in communicating the needs of the business community to our school district. We were also instrumental in starting the after-school STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) program at Hazelbrook Middle School and supporting the Mobile Makerspace (MMS) with volunteers at the Summer Lunch Program. The MMS is a creative “do it yourself” space providing tools and equipment which provides hands-on learning experiences or youth to spark an interest in STEAM subjects. Click here for the full Tualatin Mobile Makerspace story.

The Chamber and the Tigard-Tualatin School District are currently working on facilitating a new program, #WorkReady. The current Superintendent of the Tigard-Tualatin School District, Dr. Sue Rieke-Smith was instrumental in developing this program in Springfield. #WorkReady focuses on education and career exploration for middle and high school students.

This extremely important work provides us one of the highest value propositions we can offer Tualatin’s Youth and Business community to effectively change lives in the long-term. We appreciate your commitment to engaging, cultivating, and developing a local pool of skilled, qualified, and career-ready talent!

A skilled, educated, and qualified workforce is fundamental to a strong economy.

The Tualatin Chamber of Commerce, Tigard Tualatin School District, City, and Community Business Leaders within Tualatin have an intersecting vision for invigorating the local economy, improving graduation rates, and creating a well-trained workforce. If you are committed to engaging, cultivating and developing a local pool of skilled, qualified and career-ready talent, you are in good company, and #WorkReady programs have your goals in mind.
Our three core #WorkReady programs, presented in partnership with the Tigard Tualatin Schools, include Middle School Career Day, Career Exploration, and Career Connect. Each is an experience designed to impart purpose and motivation to students as they explore educational and career pathways ahead of them.

As an employer seeking qualified employees to grow your business, #WorkReady programs offer an opportunity to speak with students about those opportunities, and about the skills, education, and training you are seeking to fill those jobs.

As a college, university, or training school recruiter, #WorkReady programs offer an opportunity to inform students about the multitude of programs, career placement services, and financial resources available to them.

As a student, #WorkReady programs are an opportunity to meet with respected and experienced members of your community. These business and community leaders have extensive experience, knowledge, and expertise. They are willing to invest their time in your success simply because they know the choices you make today will lead to educational opportunities, good-paying jobs, exciting careers, and your ability to positively impact your community.
