Member Highlight: Family Matters In-Home Care

Tell me about how your business got started.

Grown from one woman’s passion for caregiving and lead by strong family values with a mind for business, Family Matters In-Home Care has been serving communities on the west coast since 2002.
Carol Pardue-Spears started her company with a mission; to provide compassionate, quality, in-home care that allows you or your loved one to remain in the comfort of their own home. Today, Family Matters In-Home Care is operated by her three sons and has grown to a team of over 300 caregivers in four locations across the state of California. While exploring their options for expansion the Family Matters IHC team started looking north to Oregon, which lead them to contact their cousin-in-law, Jason Gore with an idea.
Jason wasn’t looking for a career in healthcare, however like his aunt Carol he too had a passion for helping others which lead him to law school where he became a successful civil litigation attorney in Portland for over 9 years. Jason also explored the world of Real Estate for over 5 years, using his attention to others’ needs to provide home services to families in search of the perfect home.
“I really enjoyed being on the front lines helping people,” Jason says about his career in real estate, “but the real estate market is up and down, so I needed more consistency.”
Although he was helping people in a different way Jason still knew there was something greater in store for him and his family, so when he received a call from California two years ago he was excited to accept the offer of growing his family’s business in Oregon as the owner and operator of a new Branch in Tualatin. “I felt like this opportunity was the perfect mesh of all of my skills, my experiences of helping others, being of service, and starting my own business.”
Jason’s wife Andrea also works in the healthcare field while serving as Administrator for Family Matters IHC – Tualatin, and the couple has three beautiful children, ages 5, 3 and 1.

“95 percent of our clients are in their own home,” Jason explains. “We provide a caregiver out to them to take care of all the activities of daily living.” This includes bathing, toileting, companionship, errands, food prep, exercise, and whatever else they need to life comfortably and confidently in their own home.
“The goal for us is to build the rapport between caregiver and client,” Jason continues, “we have even sent out two caregivers to one home to help alleviate anxieties and ensure we have the perfect match for our clients’ needs.”

What is your business philosophy?

Family Matters In-Home Care’s mission is to provide compassionate, quality, in-home care that allows you or your loved one to remain in the comfort of home. This statement hardly does the Family Matters IHC team justice, as they are clearly dedicated to home care excellence and setting the bar for quality caregiving on the west coast.
“Really it’s just to be of service to our seniors,” Jason says. “So, our philosophy is to build a rapport with our clients, so they can remain happy and reduce the anxiety of growing older.”

How does your business give back to the community?

Family Matters IHC gives back by hosting parades, BINGO games and other fun activities for their communities in California. They have a dedicated team who cultivates strong community partnerships and create events that bring wholesome activities to the senior communities they serve and their families. In Oregon, Jason and his team plan to develop similar events and fun activities to share with our Tualatin community, and they are continually searching for new ways to contribute.

If you could say one thing to the people of Tualatin, what would it be?

“I think this town is amazing,” Jason says about his experience so far in the Tualatin community, “the people who live and work here really come together in a supportive way, and they have been so accommodating, helpful and friendly. We’ve had a great experience with the Chamber, how they help support local businesses and others in the community.”
Jason’s final thought for Tualatin is, “This is a great place to live and a great place to work, and I’m super happy that I made the decision to move here with my family and finally take the plunge to get involved in the community. It’s been awesome, and I look forward to many more years to come.”
