Tell me about how your business got started.
RJ Emmett did not begin his career path in Technology. In fact, he attended the University of Oregon with a focus in Journalism, but he always had a mind for trouble shooting problems and helping others.
In 1997, RJ was hired to be a Network Administrator for a company in Oregon City in the midst of a huge hiring boom. He was thrown right into the deep end of the IT Training pool, which meant adapting quickly and learning the ropes even faster.
During the dot com crash 5 years later, RJ was laid off from his IT position along with many other technology professionals. While searching for an IT job, he was approached by a former colleague who asked if he could help their small business through some IT issues. While helping this small business, RJ realized that there were so many small businesses who were also trying to resolve technology issues on their own. It was then that Acts Technology was started, and it has since helped hundreds of small businesses navigate their IT needs.
What problem does your product or service solve?
Acts Technology isn’t just another IT company. They use their knowledge and experience to guide their clients into making sound technology decisions that make the most sense for their company. What is your business philosophy?
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord” – Colossians 3:23.
RJ’s philosophy has always been to work harder and smarter, with a focus on relationship building. “It’s not all about the money”, he says. “I enjoy what I do because I’m taking care of my friends. Treat your clients like family and everything else will fall into place.”
RJ believes in being humble, honest, and up-front with his clients. If he doesn’t know the answer to your problem, he will be honest in his answers and strive to help you find the solution you need.

How does your business give back to the community?
RJ and his Acts Technology family volunteer at Athey Creek Christian Fellowship through kids’ sports programs as well as provide donations. They will also take in old computers donated by clients, wipe the hard drives, and rebuild them for the purpose of donating to those in need of a computer but can’t afford one.
If you could say one thing to the people of Tualatin, what would it be?
“Please don’t suffer in silence over your IT problems. IT can be expensive, but I don’t charge just for talking to people. I’ve heard of so many small business owners who have spent hours trying to fix something that would have taken me less than 15 minutes over the phone.
