Commission members are volunteers appointed by the County Board of Commissioners. Serving on an appointed board or commission is a great way for residents to participate in decisions that affect them and to learn more about how local government works.

The Civil Service Commission is the appeal board for Washington County Employees. Employees may appeal to the Civil Service Commission adverse personnel management decisions such as appointments, disciplinary actions and classification allocations.

The Civil Service Commission was established pursuant to the Civil Service Act adopted by the citizens of Washington County. Membership duties and responsibilities of the Commission are defined in Washington County’s Personnel Rules and Regulations. The Commission is also the advisory body to the County’s Affirmative Action program. To learn more about this Commission, visit the Civil Service Commission webpage.

Please note: Civil Service Commission members must be residents of Washington County.
