How did you decide to pursue the career that you are working in today? 
I’d like to say that it was a specific choice but actually, the company I was working for closed their Portland office and I was without a job. I was job searching and stumbled into insurance and financial services opportunities. I found that I liked it and was good at it. My background in the retirement plans industry had given me the skills that allowed me to be successful as an insurance broker and investment advisor rep.
What is the most important thing you want people to know about your business?
If you are my client, I will do everything possible so that you can achieve the best outcome possible -no matter what.
What is an important lesson you have learned?
You can’t’ be all things to all people. Limit the products and services you offer so you can be excellent at what you do. Then build a good referral network so you can share business opportunities.
Who has inspired you in your life (either professionally or personally)?
I don’t think I can point to one person. I’m inspired almost daily by the people I meet.
What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop?
Most importantly, I take care of my clients and do the right thing for them every time. Another thing that has worked well for me is that I answer my phone. It’s amazing how many people I talk with started out by telling me that they have called or left messages for other agents. Also, Imake sure that I attend at least one networking event a week. Having great partners (like other Chamber members) provides new clients on a regular basis.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I am an excellent softball player and swimmer. I love to scuba dive and white water raft.
What about your business keeps you up at night?
Actually, not much keeps me up at night. When I was employed (vs. self employed) I was much more stressed. Now, I only have to please my clients and myself. It’s much easier!
What have you accomplished that you are proud of?
My two boys make me happy and proud. They turned out great. Having built my business from the ground up has given me a sense of accomplishment. My business allows me to help people every day in many different ways.
What do you perceive as the benefits you receive from Chamber membership?
I joined the Chamber to connect withmy community and give back. The Chamber provides multiple opportunities to do both. As an added bonus, I have made great friends and established many relationships that have helped me in my business and personal life.
