Gold Member Highlight: Borland Free Clinic

Tualatin Chamber Member Highlight - Borland Free Clinic

Tell me about how your business got started.
A decade in the making, the Borland Free Clinic is the culmination of a dream. A dream that a few community-minded people dared to explore, believing that there were more ways to serve the members of our community with physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. A dream of bringing hope and healing to our community’s most vulnerable.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” –Margaret Mead.
The Borland Free Clinic was born in 2012 and as the foundation began to form, devoted volunteers sought to bring their ideas to fruition through hard work and collaboration. After finding a home in the Rolling Hills Church alongside other charitable services like the Tualatin Food Pantry, the Clinic finally opened its doors in May of 2017 with the offering of free Diabetes Prevention Classes. A year later the Clinic grew and evolved to offer Primary Care, providing free medical care to the vulnerable members of our community. Today, the BFC is still serving our community through these times of crisis with free medical care. To make an appointment, call 503-974-8887.

What problem does your product or service solve?
The Borland Free Clinic offers Primary Care to anyone in our greater community who is in need. As a non-profit operating entirely by volunteer practitioners and donations, the BFC is one of only a few such clinics in the state of Oregon offering 100% free services aimed at treating the whole person with physical, emotional, and spiritual care.
“People can get their normal check-up and ask questions, and just hear from experts on what they can do,” says Jordan Skornik, the Clinic’s Director of Development & Communications. “It makes a big difference for those who are vulnerable or fall in to the ‘insurance gap’ of uninsured and under-insured individuals in our community.”

What is your business philosophy?
“We provide medical care that is Compassionate, Attentive, Respectful, and done with Excellence and Service in mind,” Jordan recites the Borland Clinic’s core values, an acronym for ‘CARES’.
It is clear that the team and volunteers at the BFC approach every patient with these values in mind, catering to the most vulnerable, at risk members of our community in need of a higher level of care and compassion, and without cost.

How does your business give back to the community?
The gift that the Borland Clinic gives to our community is simple; free medical, emotional, and spiritual care for all those in need.
“We are keeping patients healthy,” Jordan says about BFC’s contribution. “For example, we have provided over $25K worth of free medical care to our community so far this year –but this is also a benefit to local hospitals and to the community and it’s economy.”
The BFC’s services means healthier people in our community, which means less emergency room visits that would overwhelm our medial system, and therefore creates a more productive workforce in the healthcare industry. It is incredible to think how a small organization of volunteers can make such a marked impact to the overall health and prosperity of our community.

If you could say one thing to the people of Tualatin, what would it be?
“There is a place for everyone to be involved with the Borland Free Clinic!” Jordan exclaims. “If you don’t have insurance, come on by. If you do, help us spread the word that we provide a vital service to our vulnerable neighbors. If you are able, donate your time and/or your treasure. As a free clinic, we operate exclusively by means of volunteers and donations.”

You too can be a champion and make an impact in our community!
