Volunteer Highlight – Jason Jordan, Republic Services

How did you decide to pursue the career that you are working in today?
Never thought I would be in the Recycling and Garbage Industry.  I was recruited by a former co-worker and boss.  I decided to pursue my next chapter in my career with Republic Services after learning about the company, great people and its commitment to the communities we serve.

What is the most important thing you want people to know about your business?
That it is an invisible business that touches every person, both in their personal and professional lives.  It is also a business that is focused on how we leave this world better for our future generations.

What is an important lesson you have learned?
Specifically in this business- how little people know about our industry and how being a large corporation carries with it many stigmas.  Our employees work, live and contribute to the local economy and communities.  I have learned that this is a message we continue to focus on moving forward.

Who has inspired you in your life (either professionally or personally)?
Personally- my wife..she is an amazing partner that has faced many challenges in her life and has come out stronger because of them.  Professionally- my former boss (now promoted to Corporate Position)- his approach and authentic leadership is what brought me to the company I work for today.

What are you doing to ensure you continue to grow and develop?
Read, stay humble and learn something new everyday

What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I am young for the position I am in as well as have a very fun, almost childish nature outside of work (I have three kids under the age of 8 so need to be. )

What about your business keeps you up at night?
The safety of my employees.  We work in one of the most dangerous professions in the world.  I care about my employees and their families.  I constantly worry about each and every one of them returning home from work every day.

What have you accomplished that you are proud of?
Being able to balance growing my career with a laser like focus on the reason being able to support my family both in quality of living, but by being a present father and husband.

What do you perceive as the benefits you receive from Chamber membership?
Great connections, strong community involvement and aligned approach on our to grow our economy to a strong business alliance.
