Regatta Run presents Scholarship Check

With over 70 attendees cheering on, the Tualatin Chamber of Commerce Fit City and Regatta Run Committee presented the Scholarship check for $14,682.50 in honor of Corporal Matthew Lembke, to the Foundation for Tigard/Tualatin School. Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers, sponsors and participants who helped to make this happen!

Women In Networking

One of our Business Teams, WIN (Women in Networking) is a wonderful networking opportunity for women within the Tualatin area business community for networking and education by learning from each other and special guest speakers.  We meet for this luncheon the third Thursday of every month.  Join us!

Government Affairs Council

The mission of this council shall be twofold:  to educate our members on issues affecting their business;and to provide a basis for the chamber to act on local, regional and state-wide issues, thus creating a favorable and profitable business climate.

The Purpose of the Government Affairs Council (GAC) is:

To identify, research, and recommend policy positions that provide for a positive business climate for our members;

  1. To advocate for businesses on a local, regional and state-wide level. The council will pursue public policy issues that are the highest priority to our members based on outreach and feedback;
  2. To provide education to our members regarding governmental issues through the newsletter, website, monthly forum luncheons and other communication vehicles.

Council Make-up:

The GAC will consist of no more than 20 chamber members in good standing.

  1. A board member shall serve as council chair.
  2. There shall also be a vice-chair.
  3. There shall be a chamber staff representative who will provide administrative support.
  4. All GAC members agree to attend 75 percent of regular council meetings. Meetings shall be monthly.
  5. Council terms shall be two years in length with no term limits.
  6. New GAC members shall be approved by the board.
  7. The GAC may establish subcommittees to work on specific issues.
  8. All activities of the GAC will be reported to the Board of Directors at the regular board meetings.
  9. GAC members who meet the attendance and assignment requirements will retain voting privileges.
  10. Voting will prevail with a simple majority of those members present.
  11.  While multiple representatives are encouraged and invited to attend, only one vote per member business will be allowed.

Duties of the GAC Shall Include, but not be Limited to: 

1.      Studying and making recommendations about local, regional and state-wide issues that can affect member businesses. (Examples include: ballot measures, economic development,   transportation, commuter connectivity and land-use);

2.       Advocating on behalf of the membership;

3.      Monitoring governmental regulations;

4.      Hosting candidate debates and issue discussions during election periods.

Guiding Principles Adopted by the Chamber Board of Directors Pertinent to the GAC:

  1. The use of taxes should be fair and equitable in providing services and programs that benefit the health and welfare of citizens, as well as economic growth. The GAC will strive to understand current city/regional funding, and work with local government to highlight and mitigate impacts to the business climate.
  2. The chamber and GAC will acknowledge that reasonable regulations are also necessary for a healthy economy and safe business practice.
  3. The board of directors will continuously maintain its responsibility and authority to review the actions of the GAC.  The board can change or cancel the GAC’s action by a majority vote.

      TUALATIN GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COUNCIL CHAIR

 Role Description

Goal:  To carry out the GAC’s mission, as established by the Board of Directors.  The purpose of the GAC is to:  identify and research business issues, take an active role advocating for business when necessary, recommend policy positions to the board, and educate our membership.

Commitments:

1.      Serve for one year (January 1 – December 31), by appointment of the Board President;

2.      Attend GAC meetings;

3.      Attend regional meetings and legislative council meetings;

4.      Attend a Tualatin city council meeting once or twice a year;

5.      Meet with elected officials, ballot measure pro/opponents and other related activities as necessary.

Responsibilities:

1.      Preside over GAC meetings;

2.      Assist the executive director in developing the agenda for GAC meetings;

3.      Develop/approve production timelines for specific events or activities as appropriate;

4.      Coordinate with chamber staff to ensure good communication regarding roles and responsibilities;

5.      Ensure that GAC members follow through with their individual tasks by the assigned deadlines.

Authority:  Neither the chair nor council members shall have authority to make financial or other commitments on behalf of the chamber, verbally or in writing, without prior approval of the chamber staff.

 

 TUALATIN GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COUNCIL VICE-CHAIR

Role Description

Goal:  To carry out the GAC’s mission, as established by the Board of Directors.  The purpose of the GAC is to: identify and research business issues, take an active role advocating for business when necessary, recommend policy positions to the board, and educate our membership.

Commitment:

1.      Serve for one year (January 1 – December 31), by appointment of the Board President;

2.      Attend GAC meetings;

3.      Attend regional meetings and legislative council meetings;

4.      Attend a Tualatin city council meeting once or twice a year;

We meet on the third Wednesday of every month, 9:30am - 11:00pm at Country Financial Insurance.  Chamber members are invited to attend this lively group discussion on issues most important to area businesses.
